The Understanding Domestic Violence: Essentials and Intersections Course is our comprehensive overview about the fundamentals of domestic and intimate partner violence. The course will focus on the forms, dynamics, and tactics of abuse with an emphasis on the intersections between intimate partner violence and health and social justice issues affecting New York City’s communities.

The Power of Transformation: Identifying and Overcoming Vicarious Trauma Spring 2017

The Power of Transformation helps you become aware of how you have been affected by the trauma of people you care for in your professional and personal life. This course highlights practical ways to identify the cause of vicarious trauma, reduce stress and bring your life back into balance.

Many social service professionals, counselors, advocates, clergy, activists and direct support workers provide vital, necessary services assisting children, adults and families who may have experienced: loss, neglect or abuse. More often than not, children and adults within these families also suffer from trauma. Over time, people in helping and service professions are affected by working with traumatized individuals and communities due to the heart felt connection you establish with those you serve.

During this empowering training you will:

1) Learn what vicarious trauma is and the prevalence of trauma
2) Identify how vicarious trauma affects your professional and personal life
3) Learn wellness and self-care strategies to bring your life back into balance

Join us for a 2-day training for Faith Communities & Leaders

 Communities of faith and their leaders have the potential to play a significant role in helping to prevent and eliminate family violence. This course is designed to help religious leaders, spiritual activists, and all people of Faith to:

  • Gain a basic understanding of the complex dynamics of intimate partner abuse and effects on individuals, families and communities
  • Learn about intervention strategies: practices and resources needed to help keep victim/survivors safe, and abusers accountable
  • Explore approaches to the challenging pastoral, theological and spiritual issues that abuse and violence in the family raise
  • Develop strategies for how you and your community of faith can play a critical role in breaking the silence and preventing domestic violence
