The Understanding Domestic Violence: Essentials and Intersections Course is our comprehensive overview about the fundamentals of domestic and intimate partner violence. The course will focus on the forms, dynamics, and tactics of abuse with an emphasis on the intersections between intimate partner violence and health and social justice issues affecting New York City’s communities.

Director Ava DuVernay’s takes an unflinching, well-informed, and thoroughly researched look at the American system of incarceration, specifically how the prison industrial complex affects people of color. DuVernay explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. How does the prison industrial complex affect the lives of Black women, and what are its intersections with family violence? Join us for a thought-provoking film, and a robust conversation!
