This month, for our monthly women’s circle we’re screening and discussing 13TH,’ the Journey From Shackles to Prison Bars. Director Ava DuVernay’s takes an unflinching, well-informed, and thoroughly researched look at the American system of incarceration, specifically how the prison industrial complex affects people of color. DuVernay explores the history of racial inequality in the United States, focusing on the fact that the nation’s prisons are disproportionately filled with African-Americans. How does the prison industrial complex affect the lives of Black women, and what are its intersections with family violence? Join us for a thought-provoking film, and a robust conversation!

Healing Historic Trauma Through Ancestral Atonement by Rev. Juan Carlos Areán

In November 2016, Juan Carlos was called to be part of a powerful spontaneous sacred ceremony in Teotihuacán, Mexico, where he ended up kneeling in front of a real Aztec warrior/dancer, surrounded by a circle of Mexican and American fellow spiritual travelers.
 
Based on this experience, Juan Carlos will lead participants in ritual, meditation and circle discussion on how atonement and forgiveness can help heal historical and personal trauma.
