Daralee Vázquez-García

Daralee is a community educator, social justice activist and organizer at CONNECT. Although she majored in Literature and History, her educational passion leads towards gender justice, racial justice and youth justice. She joined CONNECT in 2017 and is a supervisor of the Young Women’s Discovery Circle, a leadership and empowerment program for Latinx immigrant high school students. She also is a Community Organizer for CONNECT and its network of partners. During her years teaching at NYC public high schools, Daralee created a restorative justice program and facilitated circles for students and teachers, as an alternative to student suspensions. Daralee’s passion is creating a safe space for youth from immigrant communities and communities of color to voice their concerns about sexual harassment and gender violence.  Daralee’s career began as a Public School teacher in Isabela, Puerto Rico. She has taught at all levels, from K -12 and higher education at Brooklyn College. Her favorite quote is by Eugenio Maria de Hostos: “Aritméticamente la mujer es la mitad del movimiento social; mecánicamente es el todo.” (Arithmetically the woman is half the social movement; mechanically it is the whole).
