The Understanding Domestic Violence: Essentials and Intersections Course is our comprehensive overview about the fundamentals of domestic and intimate partner violence. The course will focus on the forms, dynamics, and tactics of abuse with an emphasis on the intersections between intimate partner violence, health and social justice issues affecting New York City’s communities. Topics covered include: * Trauma and the impact of intimate partner violence on women and children * Reasons why men batter and abuse * The ways culture and religion shape people’s response to domestic violence * Effects of domestic violence within LGBTQ communities * HIV, domestic violence and substance abuse * The navigation of social service and legal systems * Safety Planning **Participation in each session is required for certification. Understanding Domestic Violence Essentials and Intersections is the prerequisite course for all CONNECT Training Institute courses. Note: this is a 4-day course, participants must attend each Friday to receive a certificate of completion.
