CONNECT TO HOLD 13TH ANNUAL NYC FATHER’S DAY PLEDGE AGAINST VIOLENCE IN-PERSON THIS JUNE.
The NYC Father’s Day Pledge Against Violence will be held in person for the first time since June 2019 due to COVID-19.
New York, NY— Join CONNECT as it holds the 13th Annual NYC Father’s Day Pledge Against Violence (FDPAV), the first in-person Pledge since the pandemic began, on Thursday, June 16 2022 from 12-2PM at the Brooklyn Borough Hall Steps. In June 2020 and June 2021 the Pledge was held virtually. The NYC Father’s Day Pledge Against Violence is a movement to end violence in our homes, schools, and communities. Public Advocate of the City of New York Jumaane D. Williams and Until Freedom Co-Founder Angelo Pinto will be among the speakers at the event.
“There is a lot going on in the world. Wherever you are and wherever violence is happening, we as men need to be allies with the women, youth, and allies in our lives to work together to transform these communities and the culture of violence into a culture of peace,” says Quentin Walcott, executive director of CONNECT and co-founder of the Father’s Day Pledge Against Violence.
CONNECT is a nonprofit organization that works with NYC’s communities to prevent interpersonal violence and promote gender justice. CONNECT seeks to transform the beliefs, behaviors, and institutions that perpetuate violence via trainings, workshops, dialogues, and circles.
The Father’s Day Pledge event brings together community members, community leaders, elected officials and city activists to celebrate the vital roles men and boys can play in ending and preventing violence. We encourage fathers and men to bring their partners, children, friends and colleagues. ALL ARE WELCOME!
The first Father’s Day Pledge was held in NYC in June 2010 as a collaboration between NYC Council Member Julissa Ferreras and Quentin Walcott, Co-Executive Director of CONNECT. The tradition was followed by Council Member Laurie Cumbo. The Pledge struck a resonant chord with men of all ages, ethnicities and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 2014, it went national, and was immediately replicated in more than 50 cities across the United States. The nationwide adoption was led by National Father’s Day Pledge Co-Chair Ineabelle Geena Cruz, Heels of Greatness/SAFER, and former Rochester (NY) Councilman Adam McFadden, former President of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (NBC-LEO).
