Sharene joined CONNECT in 2003. She is a full-time Trainer and Educator for the CONNECTTraining Institute (CTI) and CONNECT’s Community Empowerment Program (CEP). Sharene is one of the lead trainers for “Understanding Domestic Violence: Essentials & Intersections.” She runs support groups for victims and survivors in English and in Spanish, facilitates a monthly women’s roundtable, trains doulas and healthcare professions to screen for partner/spousal abuse, and provides technical assistance to CONNECT community partners throughout NYC.
A Latina born and raised in the heart of the South Bronx, Sharene’s professional experience as an antiviolence advocate and educator, specializing in intimate partner violence and its root causes, began in 1996. She has worked in direct service, grassroots organizing, community training and women’s and girls’ empowerment. She received a dual Master’s in Counseling and Education at Columbia University Teachers College.
